Some children naturally develop the skills and abilities necessary to manage life's experiences. Others need to be taught these skills directly.
I work with children and adolescents using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and a problem solving approach to teach them skills to regulate their emotions and make positive behaviour choices. Education is a large part of my practice as I feel it is important for the client to understand what their difficulties may be and why they think, feel and do the things they do. In that way, it becomes easier to take control of one’s behaviour, self-advocate and make change happen.
Through psychoeducational assessment, children, along with their parents, learn how they think and what supports they need to be successful. This information is a powerful tool.
